On a whim, I Googled my own name (Russell Carey) to see what would come up. One of the first things I saw was your query about "Jug Band Music" from 2015. Did you manage to track it down?... If you didn't: I have only a vague recollection of playing that song. I believe that I might have played it from a Mugwumps compilation album that the record company would have released when the Lovin Spoonful and the Mamas & Papas first became popular (1965/66?), in attempt to "cash in" on their success. Almost certainly, I borrowed it from "Bent Back Records," who sponsored my show. I remember the name of one of the two owners - John Bills (who worked for Pepsi the whole time I lived in Columbus) - if you can track him down. A Columbus musician, Peter Conrad (who might still have his own group - playing mostly Beatles covers) used to work at Bent Back. I hope this helps!

You might like to know that I now host a weekly radio show (as a "hobby") on a non-commercial station, KZCT/"Ozcat Radio" in California (using a different on-air name - see below). I present it in a similar way to "Psychedelic Sunday." The show's slogan is "Featuring up-to-date and all-time-great music, and the connections between them." So it contains both new and old music - primarily "Triple-A" music (somewhat like WCBE's music), but other types of music too, including some classic rock. I'm trying to track down the British DJ Russell Carey, whose Sunday morning show on WLVQ-FM 96 out of Columbus was a show I tried never to miss. On one of his shows, he played an alternate version of "Jug Band Music," by The Mugwumps. (It was actually the Lovin' Spoonful.) I'd heard the song for the first time on my hometown AM station in the spring/summer of 1966, but could never find the record. The 45 RPM version is NOT the same version the Spoonful included on vinyl LPs; it's also NOT the version released on a Sidewalk 45. Russell actually knew this was an alternate version, and said it could be purchased at a Columbus record store; I was a grad student at OSU, and had no extra cash. When he played the song on his show, I KNEW it was the version I'd been searching for. I'm still searching, and cannot find it ANYWHERE. Can someone who knows the tune, and its history, or who knows how to contact Russell Carey, PLEASE let me know? I've tried to track this tune down for almost 49 years. Thanks!

Anyone know how to get in touch with Mr. Carey? I'm trying to verify & locate a rare record he played one Sunday morning while I was a grad student at OSU. He mentioned that a Columbus record store stocked the 45 rpm, but I was dirt-poor in those days (late 1980s). Thanks!
